The British Phonographic Industry has released its music market report for 2015. It finds that UK music consumption rose 4% in 2015 to a retail value of £1.1 billion. Last year saw 26.8 billion streams served to UK listeners, an 82% increase over the previous year, which put it at more than a fifth of the UK’s total music consumption. Continue Reading
Nielsen Music’s latest data shows that streaming doubled in the U.S. in 2015. Billboard has a first look at the company’s reports from the recently concluded year. The total songs streamed increased from 164.5 billion in 2014 to 317.2 billion last year. Continue Reading
iHeartMedia is partnering with Canada’s largest media company, Bell Media, to take iHeartRadio to Canada this year. The U.S. Copyright Office announced that it is undertaking a public study of the country’s safe harbor provisions. Section 512 was introduced in 1998 as part of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and its safe harbor laws provide some liability limitations on usage for Internet-based services.
