Podcast listeners are doubling down: Over half of them spent more time listening over the past six months than previously — that metric courtesy of research conducted by Nielsen in partnership with global podcast company Acast for this week’s Adweek in NYC. In what could be a warning to all podcast networks, and a boost for audio transcription services, the National Association of the Deaf has sued SiriusXM for failing to provide transcripts of podcasts. The suit covers Stitcher and Pandora as well. This action harks back to a previous lawsuit against Netflix. Continue Reading

New information released from Nielsen’s ongoing Podcast Listening Buying Power survey shows that podcast listeners are twice as likely to use food delivery services, according to a research bulletin sent to RAIN. The tie-up is a multi-year agreement for distribution, hosting, sales representation, and development of new podcast co-productions in 2022 and beyond. Fewer new podcasts were dropped in November than in any month in a year, including last November. This according to the stats page at podcast stats company Listen Notes. There were 9.728 new shows launched in November, down from over 16,000 in October, and far fewer than the 87,448 new shows introduced in November, 2020. Continue Reading
