Spotify is opening up an option for third-party app developers to sell their creations on mobile app stores. The streaming platform announced that it has removed the distribution restrictions for programs made in the Spotify iOS SDK (software development kit) and Spotify Android SDK. Pandora tops comScore app list

Pandora was the mobile program with the most time spent in-app, according to the Mobile Metrix Key Measures report from comScore. The data reflected average minutes per visitor for U.S. adults, and Pandora clocked in with 1,271 minutes. Beatport purchased a social listening app called Listn for an undisclosed price, then promptly decided to shut down the service. The app allowed its members to explore their friends’ music libraries, with connections to several popular streaming services: YouTube, Spotify, Rdio, and SoundCloud. Microsoft launched a new app for Windows and Windows Phones that offers shoppers full albums for steep discounts. Microsoft Music Deals promises to have 101 top albums on sale for less than $2 each every Tuesday. It will also sell debut albums for 99 cents and “timeless classics” for $1.99. Music apps post biggest spike in mobile use, according to new research

Research from Localytics confirmed that mobile is still the rising trend for music services. In the company’s analysis of app usage over the past year, people spent 79% more time in their music programs, which translates to 64 more minutes per month. Compare that with the average increase of 21% for time spent across all apps.
