Amazon’s Echo Show has restored access to YouTube videos. The Amazon smart speaker, which has a screen, debuted in the spring but lost the ability to play YouTube clips in September. Google and Amazon each have their own take on why the service was suspended. In Amazon’s version, Google simply disabled YouTube with no warning or explanation; to hear Google tell it, there were terms of service violations in how Amazon implemented YouTube on the smart speaker.
No matter who may have been at fault, the smart speaker will now play YouTube videos. An Amazon representative told Variety that more options for video are in the works. “We’re excited to offer customers the capability to watch even more video content from sources such as Vimeo, YouTube, and Dailymotion on Echo Show,” they said. “More video sources will be added over time.”
