Spotify has reportedly reached a new subscriber milestone. Sources familiar with the streaming company told the Financial Times that it now has 60 million paying listeners. The milestone would mean that Spotify added 10 million subscribers since March, which was the last time the company announced its audience size via formal channels. In other words, that’s 2.5 million subscribers a month since that last update.
Any news development from Spotify usually comes tied to its upcoming plans for a direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange. The subscriber growth could be a promising sign for potential investors, as are Spotify’s moves to secure direct licensing deals with each of the major labels. Sony and Universal are already signed, sealed, and delivered, and an agreement with Warner could arrive in the coming months.
