SoundCloud shared two big business announcements today. First, it has rolled out the SoundCloud Go subscription in Canada. The ad-free listening tier will cost C$9.99 a month and it allows access to the online audio company’s expanded catalog of more than 135 million tracks. Subscribers also receive offline listening and saved tracks available at any time.
Second, it has entered a deal with Triton Digital to use its a2x programmatic ad exchange for monetization of its audio inventory in Canada. Listeners on the free tier of SoundCloud will be served ads among their selected tracks. The Triton partnership allows programmatic buyers in Canada to make ad purchases that target segments of SoundCloud’s listener base.
“We are pleased to continue to support SoundCloud’s global advertising strategy by adding their Canadian audience to the exchange,” said John Rosso, Triton’s president of market development. “With mobile ad spending in Canada estimated to reach $3B in 2017, digital audio as an advertising channel is growing at a rapid pace.”
