All The Ears

Spotify is holding its annual All Ears podcasting summit this week in Berlin. A highlight sizzle reel is already posted HERE.  The event will be MC’d by Michael Krause, General Manager of Europe at Spotify (formerly at Deezer). “I’m very excited to bring the industry back together and continue our conversations around the future of the audio field in Germany,” he says.

The More Things Change…

“Across culture, there is an eerie sense of things coming full circle.” That from Tatiana Crisano, Senior Music Industry Analyst & Consultant at MIDiA Research, in her recently posted “The Cultural pendulum swing is coming back around.” She posits a “pendulum of change which swings betweenfrom the pre-streaming era to the streaming era … and now points to a post-streaming era which affects industries as diverse as TV and clothing. In music, the pendulum is represented but scarcity to on-demand, fan-focus to audience-focus, artists to songs, and other trends. “A decade into these swings, however, we are seeing the pendulum begin its journey back towards a more logical middle ground.: It’s an enlightening column; read it HERE.

Crossing Borders

In podcasting, one audience-expanding use of AI is translation, which brings in whole new audiences. One Minute Remaining, an Australian true crime show, is working with global network Acast, and AI-powered creative studio Wondercraft, to expand its reach to Spanish-speaking audiences around the world. The existing English-language show has clocked four-millio[n downloads. Show host Jack Laurence reflected: “While I was initially hesitant about AI in the creative space, the technology has proven incredible, allowing my show to be accessible to Spanish speakers while preserving my voice and creative vision.” The AI-translated version can be heard HERE.  Want to compare? HERE is the original.
