Incoming NPR CEO Katherine Maher (see RAIN coverage HERE) is the recipient of an open letter from Eric Nuzum, co-founder of Magnificent Noise and former VP of Programming at NPR. He delivers inspirational advice to aim high, be innovative in redefining what public radio success means, and connect the future to the present — and along the way he connects NPR’s listening hours per year to the entire span of human history measured in hours. For that alone, this column must be read. It’s not a short piece of writing, but it is a thoughtful rhapsody of what might be possible in a genre he clearly loves. READ

 

Defining How It’s Done

The IAB has updated its Podcast Technical Measurement Guidelines. The new draft is v2.2. “The primary objective of the Podcast Technical Measurement Guidelines v2.2 is to address the challenges faced in measuring downloads of the podcast audio file,” the IAB states, “where client-side confirmation of ad play is typically unavailable from the player apps that consumers use for listening to their favorite shows.” The measurement guidance in this document is unique in the industry. A product of the Podcast Technical Working Group within the IAB, The primary objective of the Podcast Technical Measurement Guidelines v2.2 is to address the challenges faced in measuring downloads of the podcast audio file, where client-side confirmation of ad play is typically unavailable from the player apps that consumers use for listening to their favorite shows.” This release invited comment as part of the finalization process. Executive changes are afoot at Warner Music Group (WMG). Michael Kushner has been promoted to SVP, Deputy General Counsel, Business & Legal Affairs. He comes to the role after two decades as General Counsel of WMG subsidiary Atlantic Music Group.
