Quick Hits: Podcasting in India; music in the New Establishment

Brief news items and worthy reads from around the web:

Indian podcasting will boom in a few years: Livemint published a forecast for India’s podcasting market. It noted that although the U.S. is in the midst of a boom, both in podcast production and in advertising dollars, that trend is not yet happening in India. Rajesh Tahil, co-founder of podcast company Audiomatic, predicted that it would take another two or three years for India’s podcast market to reach viability as a standalone business.

Music leaders rank among the New Establishment: Vanity Fair published its list of power players in business, tech, and culture with its 2016 New Establishment. Several familiar names from the music world, particularly streaming, appeared on the list. The leaders heading tech companies with streaming efforts are hardly surprises in this type of round-up; Tim Cook and Eddy Cue of Apple, Susan Wojcicki of YouTube, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, and Daniel Ek of Spotify all made the cut. But it also included notable artists such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Adele, each of whom is actively navigating challenges of the modern music’s business in unique ways.
