On the Move: Changing guard at Cumulus; promotions at 7digital, UMG; a sales hire at Spotify

On the Move tracks hires, promotions, and other notable personnel changes within the online audio industry.

Cumulus appoints new CEO: Lew Dickey has formally resigned as the CEO of Cumulus Media, the second-largest radio broadcaster in the U.S. The company’s stock prices have lost more than 80% of their value as revenue growth has not been able to translate into profitability. The company appointed Mary G. Berner to serve as its new top exec once Dickey steps down, effective Oct. 13.

7digital’s new COO: Looking within its ranks, 7digital has promoted Paul Langworthy to COO. He previously served as VP of operations, and has held several posts since joining the company in April 2013. “Over the coming months, there will continue to be a strong focus on the core of the business – our platform – as we further develop and strengthen it, while also executing on our ambitious roadmap,” Langworthy said.

Promotion in digital for UMG: Universal Music Group has promoted Nicola Levy. Effective immediately, Levy will serve as global head of business affairs for digital. She will be responsible for guiding Universal’s digital strategy as well as leading deal negotiations with current and potential partners. “This is an incredibly dynamic time for the entire music industry, as our business rapidly adapts to the rising popularity of streaming and other forms of digital consumption,” Levy said.

Spotify sales for Aus/NZ: Spotify has hired a new sales leader for Australia and New Zealand. Andrea Ingham will fill the spot, which was left empty with the departure of former sales boss David Raitt. Ingham will be tasked with driving ad sales revenue and strategy in that market for the streaming service. Her past experience includes sales work for radio, TV, and agencies.
