The Guardian announced that it will be hosting a show on Apple’s Beats 1 radio project. Dubbed Breaking Good, the show will see the UK publication hosting music leaders sharing their favorite recent tracks. The first episode will be hosted by Guardian music writer Kate Hutchinson with guests Andrew Weatherall and David Holmes, both big presences in British dance culture. The Guardian will air four episodes of Breaking Good over the course of March.
This isn’t the first time Beats 1 has turned over its programming to a guest host from the media world. Australian radio station Triple J also played four one-hour guest slots for the digital radio project in November. Apple hasn’t been sharing the details of these arrangements, such as how or why it has chosen the outfits that will get to play host, or whether money is exchanging hands for these sessions. In any case, these ‘takeovers,’ as they’ve been dubbed, have been a unique way for Beats 1 to reinforce its international cred and bring in fresh perspectives.
