Apple Music has hired more talent away from the BBC. Ryan Newman has left his role as the editor of hip-hop and grime station BBC 1Xtra, where he spearheaded the channel’s music strategy. Now he’ll be joining the hip-hop team at Apple Music.
Newman isn’t the first from that BBC department to relocate to a streaming service. BBC 1Xtra’s Austin Daboh left in 2016 for the role of Spotify’s senior editor of content programming in the UK.
Hip-hop, rap, and R&B talent has been particularly hot in moving between digital music operations. Tuma Basa departed Spotify and landed at YouTube this month. Carl Chery left Spotify for Apple Music in April. And several companies are still looking to hire in the space.
