Universal partners on white-label mobile streaming platform

Universal canvasUniversal Music Group has partnered with Mondia Media for the launch of a white-label mobile music service. According to the press release, Mondia Mix is a playlist-based listening platform for iOS and Android that’s aimed at mobile operators interested in providing entry-level streaming to their customers. Companies that use the product can set the subscription prices and cycles, and they’ll have a dedicated CMS for managing the content catalogue and editorial material. Mondia Mix was just announced at the Mobile World Congress, so we haven’t heard any news yet about which companies might sign on as clients.

Many of the top streaming platforms have been inking deals with mobile clients (Spotify and Deezer are among the most active in this vein). Universal’s attempt to join the ranks of those directly servicing phone companies recognizes the importance of mobile music, and stakes a competitive position against some of its music service clients.
