The Washington Post signals importance of audio; hires director from Spotify

The Washington Post has hired Renita Jablonski as director of audio (title uncapitalized in the press release). Jablonski comes  from Spotify, and is also ex-NPR. The move signals the importance of audio to WaPo, which displays neary 30 shows on its podcast page.

Jablonski will lead the Post’s long-term strategy and daily operations.

Positioned within Spotify-owned Gimlet Media, Jablonski has  also participated in creating The Get Up, a morning show from Spotify, and other Spotify projects.

She spent nine years at NPR as an editor for All Things Considered and other programs. She also had a stint at American Public Media, working on APM’s Marketplace.

While the announcement is today, the gig doesn’t start until July 26.
