Announced in January, launched in March, the alliance of Spotify and Sony PlayStation game consoles is due for an update. We got one today, with success metrics that show gaming as an important venue for streaming audio.
Called PlayStation Music, the product is an integration of Spotify into the videogame platform. Spotify reports that over five-million downloads of the system have occurred to Playstation devices. It is reportedly the quickly launch adoption rate in PlayStation history.
The installations have garnered a lot of use — 785-million tracks have been streamed on PlayStation 4 consoles. that is more than 42-million hours of music.
Spotify also announced a planned geographic expansion of the platform to Costa Rica, Panama, and Ecuador this summer. Additional markets openings are planned for later in the year.
