Spotify now has 200 million monthly active users

Spotify has reached a big milestone in its growth: 200 million monthly active users. The streaming service added 9 million monthly active users in the past few months and reached the 200 million mark “about a week ago,” according to Spotify Global Head of Communications Dustee Jenkins.

“We’ve said all along, we want to focus on growth,” said Jenkins in an interview at CES. “We believe in being a profitable company, but first and foremost we have to grow and get to regions of the world that still don’t have Spotify. There are still parts of the United States where Spotify is not widely used. So I think the company has done a great job of prioritizing growth and making the service better, because there’s a lot of competition and we’re only as good as the user thinks we are so we have to continue to enhance our service.”

Jenkins did not disclose how many of those Spotify users are paying subscribers. The latest statistics from November pegged the platform as having 87 million subscribers and 191 million monthly active users.
