Serial to collect Governors Award at The Ambies

The Podcast Academy has announced milestone podcast Serial as the winner of the Governors Award at this year’s 2nd annual The Ambies podcast awards. The ceremony is March 22.

The honor, which is chosen by The Podcast Academy Board of Governors, recognizes the impact that a podcast or individual has had on the industry. Serial co-creators Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder will accept the top honor.

At last year’s inaugural Ambies, WTF with Marc Maron received the Governors Award distinction, which was accepted by Maron and producer Brendan McDonald.

Serial debuted in October 2014 and is hosted by Koenig and edited by Snyder. The podcast series tells one story over the course of a season. In its first season, Serial investigated the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, an 18-year-old student at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore County. The show and its breakthrough popularity is credited for helping to usher the modern era of podcasting.
