SCA app LiSTNR sets stream record in May as digital audience grows; smart speakers too

Australian radio company Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) announced that its audio listening app LiSTNR set a record in May: A new record high of 10.9-million active streams were served during the month, a 20% increase year-over-year. That includes live streaming radio, podcasts, music, news, sport, and information.

Along with that, smart speaker listening “continues to surge,” according to a press release, with 2.8-million listening hours in May, a 36% increase.

LiSTNR has only been operating for a few months (launched in February), and the YoY comparison bundles in numbers from the SCA network, a company representative told RAIN News.

SCA’s conclusion is that the audience appetite for digital audio is growing, along with advertiser demand. Premium original titles produced by SCA served 2.7-million listeners, another double-digit increase.

LiSTNR delivered 10.9 million* total listening hours across its live streaming radio, podcasts, music, news, sport, and information offering – up 9% year and year, while unique streaming listeners grew by 19% to 1.56 million* people. Smart speaker listening continues to surge, with 2.8 million* total listening hours in May, an increase of 36% year on year.
