Samsung introduced its first in-house smart speaker in August, and now the product has an expected launch date. The Samsung Galaxy Home, featuring the tech company’s Bixby voice assistant, is slated for release by April. DJ Koh, Samsung’s co-CEO and head of its mobile business, told CNET about the planned smart speaker launch following the tech major’s Unpacked event in San Francisco. Although Samsung used the occasion to debut several new products, the smart speaker didn’t get any airtime during the show.
The Samsung Galaxy Home is facing a tough road once in arrives on the market. It is very late to the game, with Amazon and Google securing a strong first and second place in global market share. No pricing information has been shared, but given Samsung’s ownership of audio company Harman, it seems likely that the Galaxy Home will target the mid- or high-end market. The Apple HomePod and Sonos One have both had years to establish their reputations on the luxury side.
