RAIN Notes: October 8

Jottings of note:

A Pioneer Passes

Audio entrepreneur and innovator Ben Manilla, Berkeley lecturer and owner of BMP Audio, died on September 30. Press notices are distributed today, celebrating the career and accomplishments of a pioneering audio producer over five decades. While perhaps best known for creating The House of Blues Radio Hour (with Dan Aykroyd), Manilla operated a startling variety of companies specializing in production, distribution, and consulting. He created programming for just about every radio format and music genre, and was given a Peabody Award in 2012. He was honored by the New York Festivals International Radio Awards too many times to list. The formal obituary is HERE.

Two New

Stability rules in the Podtrac Top Podcasts listing for September, newly released. It is a top-20 list, and remains mostly the same month after month. As such, the interest lies mainly in noting newcomers and big changes in position. The only reasonably big shift comes from Bad Friends (ZEQUIS), which gains nine positions to#15. Two newcomers: First, the well-known Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard (Wondery). Second, Audio Centra (Noticentro La Octava). See the whole thing HERE.
