RAIN Notes: August 27

Jottings of note:

Whistling While They Work

In yet another survey studying how audio advertising affects listeners, Westwood One discovers that frequent listeners are eager home improvement shoppers. Podcast listeners and AM/FM listeners, in particular, spend much more money on home improvement than TV watchers. One key learning: Recent TV campaigns for The Home Depot saw significant lift in reach with the addition of AM/FM radio, especially among younger demos. And, significantly, AM/FM radio generates three times the sales lift of TV, according to a Nielsen study. There’s much more detail to this, diving deep into particulars such as which home improvements are planned by survey participants (painting holds a wide lead over bathroom remodeling). New Heights

We learn from Jen Sargent, CEO of Wondery, that her network has signed a deal bringing the New Heights podcast to Wondery and parent company Amazon, which gains ad sales representation and distribution. The show will live inside the Wondery+ subscription service. The deal is timed to precede the upcoming NFL season; the show is hosted by NFL superstar brothers Jason and Travis Kelce. A-list interviews and “next-level insights” are promised. MORE
