RAIN Notes: April 3

Jottings of note:

The Largest

JacobsMedia wil uncover its annual Techsurvey results for 2025 on Tuesday, April 15, at 2pm ET. Promo’d as the radio broadcasting industry’s largest survey, this year’s field work includes 500 radio stations and an eye-popping 25,000 surveys from core radio listeners. Any brief summary of this important work is insufficient, but highlight topics will include timeshifting analysis, taking advantage of the surge in online newsletters, utilizing short videos on social media, how and why listeners tune in to their favorite stations. In-car technology research company Quu is sponsoring Techsurvey. Register HERE.

Also The Largest

Tom Webster will deliver the goods in The Advertising Landscape, the newest proprietary study from Sounds Profitable. It’s on Wednesday, April 16 at 2pm ET. This is Part One of a multi-segment research project (we don’t know how many parts). The work is promoted as “the largest cross-media study of podcasting in America,” and promises a comprehensive picture of podcasting’s strengths and weaknesses as an advertising vehicle. Registrants will learn about the reach of the most-used ad-supported media channels, and how they differ from each other. The survey design compared podcasting to 15 other channels. Importantly, this work isolated the audience for ad-supported podcasts, and claims to be the first to do so. Insights and action steps are promised. And a Q&A session. Register HERE.

Grades

Podnews editor James Cridland released the annual Podnews Report Card, a survey of podcast creators about the hosting platforms they use, which results in a grading. Apple Podcasts takes the top spot this year, with Pocket Casts and Spotify following. Of the eight ranked platforms. Cridland reports “a significantly higher sample size this year: “It’s great to have more input into the results,” he says. The report was unveiled at Podcast Movement Evolutions, happening this week in Chicago. The survey was fielded online in February, and addressed 32,000 subscribers.
