Jottings of note:

A Voice of Integrity

“Was it wrong to believe in radio?” That is the heartfelt query from veteran radio researcher and columnist Sean Ross, as he mulls the bankruptcy resolution of Audacy. Ross did research work for the company (and its earlier brand Entercom Communications). During that time Ross worked with several executives, including President/CEO David Field. Countering the generally negative vibe that inevitably accompanies bankruptcy, Ross criticizes a double standard he has observed, wherein David Field over-invested in CBS Radio, and radio is the victim of heartless cost-cutting. “Only one of those can be true,” Ross sensibly asserts.” If doubling down on radio seems naïve now, it was, at the time, a vote of confidence in all of our efforts as broadcasters. To gloat about that decision is to find satisfaction in radio’s diminishment.” Read more HERE.

Crowd Reaction

For a broader view of radio industry reaction to David Field’s resignation as Prez/CEO of Audacy, Barret Media offers a compilation of radio professionals — news, sports, and music sectors — and their on-the-record comments. From “Not a surprising move” to “Long overdue”  and  “Audacy made the necessary move,” and ““We’re all rooting for the company and our many friends within the company, but it will be a while before we see how this plays out.” Many more, HERE.
