Quick Hits: Believe Digital sale rumors; A2IM indie celebration, stand-up comedy app

Brief news items and worthy reads from around the web:

Believe Digital for sale? Hypebot reported that indie distributor and label services company Believe Digital is looking to sell. Sources told the publication said that two of the major labels have voiced interest in a bid. Believe Digital acquired TuneCore in 2015.

A2IM launches celebration of indies: Indie music nonprofit A2IM announced the start of its first Independents’ Month. The celebration of indies began June 5 and will feature collaborations with streaming music platforms to highlight the work by indie labels and artists. Apple Music, iTunes, iHeartRadio, and Pandora are participating.

Stand-up comedy app tries niche audience: We’ve seen several efforts to tap into niche audiences for streaming audio. One of the most recent ventures to explore this path is Laugh.ly, a stand-up comedy app. This type of audio content might have a hard time getting listeners on an all-in-one on-demand platform best known for music, so trying the niche option makes sense for this field.
