Podcast company Realm acquires Pinna and Lipstick & Vinyl; leaps into new categories

In an eye-opening double acquisition, scripted podcast company Realm has acquired kids podcast network Pinna and podcast-plus-representation company Lipstick & Vinyl. In this grab, Realm instantly expands into unscripted shows with both companies.

Realm has perhaps been best known for its catalogs of Science Fiction, Horror, Superhero, and other action/adventure categories.

“I’m thrilled to share that Realm has expanded into unscripted audio and kids & family podcasts.” She noted, “With these new deals, Realm triples the volume of audio entertainment flowing through the network to over 6,000 hours, comprising nearly 300 audio series.” In a LinkedIn notice, Barton referenced Edison Research’s new Kids Podcast Listener Report (HERE).

According to Bloomberg, details of these deals are not disclosed. Molly Barton did tell Bloomberg that her company had raised more than $20-million from various investors.

Pinna has been a subscription service; its podcasts will now open to a wider, unpaying listenership.

Realm now has over 300 shows in its network, and is equipped to sell into the entire portfolio internally. TV and film adaptations are in the works also, according to Bloomberg.
