Metadata expert Gracenote has launched its Global Music Data reference catalog in India. This move by the Nielsen-owned company will bring its localized collection of descriptive music information to the Indian market. The update will allow local and global streaming services to offer improved advanced search, discovery, and navigation of India-based music to listeners.
India’s music market includes a large influx of film soundtracks, often dubbed Bollywood movies, and a large number of regional dialects and languages that pose unique metadata challenges.
“India is one of the fastest growing music markets in the world and also one of the most complex,” said Brian Hamilton, Gracenote’s general manager of music and auto. “With the strong ties to Bollywood, there are multiple singers, actors and directors on a single tag or field that creates metadata challenges. Gracenote is now applying its world-class ID structures, metadata standards and AI/machine learning skills to make Indian music more searchable and discoverable to help services drive engagement and interactivity with fans in India and around the globe.”
