Google Maps gets musical with multiple streaming integrations

Google Maps has long been the gold standard for navigation, and the platform’s latest update includes a musical angle. The maps service added integrations with Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play Music. Songs and podcasts from those three streaming services can be controlled within the main navigation screen. The move reduces the need to switch back and forth between screens while commuting, which Google is positioning as a way to increase safety.

Controlling music within the maps app sounds like a good option for listeners who do not have an infotainment dashboard in their vehicles. Google’s choice to support more than its own streaming services seems like a good move that reinforces that this move is about safety, not just self-promotion.

  1. Not sure this will be safe. Also when I have google maps on I need the actual map from google on all the time. So I still want a cd! Much much easier than this streaming deal
