After a lengthy back-and-forth negotiation, Gimlet Media appears to have recognized its production staff’s efforts to unionize. Most of the information about the podcast company’s development have come from a Twitter account representing Gimlet’s fledgling union. On Friday, the account posted that the union has been recognized. A Gimlet producer tweeted that the production staff has had a re-vote on the plans and that a majority was in support of the union.
“It’s been a very long road, but we’re officially a recognized union now!,” the union committee said in a statement issued to Hot Pod. “Twice now, our membership has affirmed that we want to organize with Writers Guild of America East, to win protections and build a stronger company. Gimlet is now legally bound to recognize us!”
The podcast creation staff of Gimlet Media announced that it would unionize with the Writers Guild of America, East in March. Shortly after the news broke, Gimlet gave the team a counter-offer rather than recognizing the union. Even with the new re-vote, Gimlet’s crew will now move into the bargaining process, which can also progress slowly.
Today on RiseUp… we reaffirmed our support for unionizing by voting Union Yes! We now have a recognized union ✊?✊?✊? ✊?✊? Thank you so much to all of our listeners, #1u and @WGAEast siblings who supported us during our campaign – solidarity matters. #GiveMeAStrongGimlet pic.twitter.com/dGDxDxOQkQ
