Beats 1 becomes Apple Music Radio, plus 2 new stations

Changes at Apple Music. The Beats 1 global live-streamed station undergoes a branding change, morphing into Apple Music Radio. More descriptive, if also more bland.

Additionally, two new stations are created, forming a small ecosystem of streamed programming: Apple Music Hits and Apple Music Country. All three stations are available in 165 countries.

Apple Music launched in 2015 following the acquisition of Beats. Renowned British DJ Zane Lowe was acquired to lead the station and be the star presenter. Nine presenters currently staff the station. Zane Lowe carries the title of Global Creative Director and Host.

“Apple Music is home — it’s home to artists, it’s home to fans, and it’s home to incredible music,” said Lowe. “I’m an obsessive music nerd. I love searching for the most exciting new artists and playing them right alongside the most essential, established artists of our time, because great music does not know the difference and Apple Music fans just want to hear great music. That’s what Apple Music radio is all about.”
