After a rise in April, podcast ad rates dip in May

According to Libsyn subsidiary AdvertiseCast, podcast CPMs dropped a bit in May after an April rise from the preceding month. Here is the illustrative chart:

Note that the sharpest movement is in the 1,000-9,999 listeners trendline (in red, above). That group of shows, which charges higher CPMs than the broader-reach categories (about $28), demonstrates the most volatility in 2022.

Libsyn tells us that for May 2022, the average CPM rate across all shows measured by AdvertiseCast was $23.77 for a 60-second ad spot.

The three highest CPM categories in May based on delivered advertising were:

  • Business: $28
  • Technology: $26
  • Kids and Family: $26
