As the latest in a series of sports-related announcements, TuneIn has struck a deal with IMG College to stream audio play-by-play of hundreds of college football games. The collaboration involves 60 teams, including Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, Washington, and Washington State.
TuneIn CEO John Donham noted the uniqueness of the deal: “By giving college football fans a way to listen to hundreds of live games, TuneIn is bringing the passion of live sporting events to the world in a way that has not been done before.”
IMG College, a leading rights-holder of college sports broadcasts, seeks to serve college team fans who no longer reside in the local listening area. “There is a large population of displaced sports fans who cannot easily access live content. The live games can be accessed for free through TuneIn on more than 200 platforms,” according to the IMG College press release.
TuneIn has emphasized sports content all year, as a key platform differentiator. In March it partnered with WestwoodOne for NCAA basketball. Along that line, March Madness was a listenership lift for TuneIn. World Cup soccer matchers were a win on TuneIn as well; over 10-million people listened.
