Spotify knows a magnetic star when it sees one. Last month, Joe Rogan. today, Michelle Obama. The audio platform has signed the former First Lady and memoir author for a conversational podcast that promises real-life inspiration. In the trailer (listen below) Obama plans to speak with members of her inner circle to start, then expand outward. The launch date is July 29.
From the show notes: “The series features deep dives with loved ones—family, friends, and colleagues—on the relationships in our lives that make us who we are.”
This show is the first output of a production deal announced in June between Spotify and Higher Ground, the production company formed by Michelle and Barack Obama.
One might imagine Spotify’s hope for this show — that it could bring new listeners to the platform, and possibly new listeners to podcasting generally, given Obama’s broad appeal across age groups.
