Streaming has continued to grow in popularity in France. The country’s domestic music industry body, SNEP, released a report on the first half of 2018, which found on-demand streams up 39% to 27 billion for the period. Two thirds of all H1 2018 audio streams came from paid services. Just three years ago, the first half had just 7.5 billion on-demand streams, showing just how quickly the music listening technology has expanded.
Like many other European nations, France was hard-hit by the global shift away from physical formats in favor of digital listening. The country’s 2017 results marked a second consecutive year of overall growth for the music industry. Annual revenue reached €583 million, and streaming took a 41.6% share of that total.
