Spotify has secured a partnership with Amy Schumer for the comedian to host and produce a podcast for the streaming audio platform. Her show, which doesn’t have a planned release date yet, will cover “pop culture, politics and the world of standup comedy.” Unnamed sources said Schumer is getting paid more than $1 million in this deal.
Spotify has had a section for podcasts for years, but much of its content is produced elsewhere. The company announced plans to move into original productions in February 2017, and its first in-house show is a collaboration with Genius.
“It’s obvious for us to add some things to the service that are unique to us,” said Courtney Holt, Spotify’s head of studios and video. “There’s a much greater commercial opportunity than there was even two years ago.”
