Spotify raises subscription rates; pitches innovation, features, and “best experience”

National news organizations are headlining Spotify news this morning: The international streaming giant will raise its premium subscription price. One national publication puts the pricing decision in the context of “Streaming Inflation Continues.”

Three buckets of premium subscribers are impacted:

  • Individual plan holders will pay one dollar per month more.
  • The “Duo” plan will rise by two dollars.
  • Family plans will be hiked by three dollars.

Putting aside the rage, Cburn presents an interesting idea of subscription plans for discrete types of audio.

Today’s action follows a year-ago price increase. Before that, Spotify’s subscription pricing was stable for over a decade.
