Spotify is making a big push into podcasting, but that isn’t the only area of spoken word content the company is curating. The streaming service has introduced a new “Word” section under its Browse tab. The section includes recordings of everything from audiobooks to poetry, from language learning to guided meditations.
This seems like a smaller move compared with the many-million dollar deals Spotify made to acquire Gimlet Media and Anchor, but it’s yet another sign that the company is looking to be more than a music platform. Podcasting is getting most of the big-budget investment, but Spotify may also be looking to grow its Word category to have more options for listeners.
