SoundCloud announced that Alison Moore will serve as the company’s new chief revenue officer. Moore’s past experience at HBO and NBCUniversal will go toward helping the audio company to launch a new subscription service some time this year.
Now that SoundCloud has secured a deal with Universal Music Group, it has the legal backing to start putting together an on-demand listening service. “We’re thrilled to have Alison heading up what will become a monetization engine of global scale,” SoundCloud CEO Alex Ljung said.
The plan to add a paid tier has been in the works at SoundCloud for some time. Monetization efforts for the company began with the debut of On SoundCloud in August 2014, a program allowing select members of the community to collect earnings from advertising. In the first several months, On SoundCloud generated $1 million in ad revenue.
