SoundCloud adds artist-seeded Stations

soundcloud-logo canvasSoundCloud is expanding its Station feature. The lean-back streams can now be seeded from an artist, with a new Start Station button now appearing on all performers’ profiles. Any stations launched this way will be saved to the user’s Collection for future listening. Both paid and free tier listeners will be able to use this feature, but the SoundCloud Go subscribers’ stations will pull from a larger catalog of songs.

Stations gives SoundCloud more ammo to compete against other lean-back music services. Following the launch of its SoundCloud Go subscription, the online audio platform has been beefing up its capabilities and offering listeners more features akin to what they’d find on the major streaming services. It recently added a Suggested Tracks feature, keeping pace with the discovery and recommendation engines from Spotify, Pandora, and Apple Music.
