Sirius XM is rolling out its new Essential subscription package in Canada. A similar package launched in the United States in April and now the satellite radio company’s Canadian branch is also adding access to this option. The plan includes a trial period where the first three months cost $1. The regular package costs $8 per month.
Essential is a listening option that takes the satellite radio service outside of cars. It is available on a range of smartphones and tablets as well as connected devices at home, such as Amazon Echo smart speakers, the Apple TV set-top box, Chromecast streaming sticks, PlayStation game consoles, and Sonos smart speakers.
“Our dominant position in the car and success at bringing the best audio entertainment to drivers is unparalleled and continues to be an integral part of our business, alongside our new focus on offering our expertly-curated content via our streaming service at a very competitive price,” said Paul Cunningham, SVP of sales and marketing for SiriusXM Canada. “We know that our new Essential subscription will be attractive to many consumers, especially younger consumers, who don’t own a car or don’t spend a lot of time in their car, and who want access to our unrivaled lineup of commercial-free music, news, entertainment, comedy and sports talk in a user-friendly, ‘lean back’ way that allows them to discover and enjoy.”
