RAIN Notes: Tuesday, December 26

Jottings of note:

A Caffeinated Milestone

Alan Cross, creator and host of the preeminent radio-to-podcast show The Ongoing History of New Music, notes that the December 17 episode was the one-thousandth episode. He characterizes it as “Canada’s longest running radio documentary,” which debuted in January, 1993. “That’s almost as impressive as my ability to drink 1000 cups of coffee in one year,” Alan dryly observes. “Come to think of it, maybe that’s why I’ve been able to do 1,000 episodes.” Congrats can be delivered HERE.

Onward and Upward

The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Conal Byrne (CEO, iHeartMedia Digital Audio Group) and Jen Sargent (CEO, Wondery) about the direction of podcasting in 2024. Its an upbeat response from both, not unpredictably. Byrne looks to AI in podcast translation, saying it’s not enough to address audiences with global reach platforms if the content is not presented in the native language. Wondery is also looking at global expansion, especially Latin America and Europe, and is developing creator talent in those regions. Much more to read HERE.

Audacy launched its fifth annual State of Audio Guide — a “playbook for elevating advertising performance with precision audio planning, creative best practices, and the latest trends.” It gather research info from Edison Research, Neustar, and the IAB, contributions from Audacy execs, and case studies.
