Five weeks after broadcasting/audio giant Audacy completed a bankruptcy process and CEO David Field exited the company (RAIN coverage HERE), Audacy has completed a layoff sweep that includes as many as 300 employees. We learn these key points from multiple news sources, as well as verifications posted on LinkedIn.
According to one source, about 200 employees exited the company, and another cites 300 people affected by the sweep.
Well known columnist Fred Jacobs calls it Black Thursday At Audacy in his column posted today.
“Last week was another difficult test for broadcast radio, especially those of us whose careers are in and around this troubled industry. While most of the broadcast radio’s publicly traded companies continue to see their stock prices buffeted by the lack of enthusiastic investors and the machinations of tariffs and DOGE, no one felt the effects of radio’s instability more than the estimated 300 employees no longer on the payroll at Audacy.” — Fred Jacobs, Black Thursday At Audacy
Audacy operates over 230 stations across 47 markets.
One news report tells us that the entire air staff of WHHL in St. Louis was laid off. The station is preparing to flip from music o knows/talk, simulcasting KMOX, and that the 2025 MLB season is the key programming feature for 2025.
