Podtrac adds Top 20 ranker for individual podcasts

Podcast audience measurement company Podtrac has launched a new rankings chart for individual shows. The Top 20 Podcast Ranking will offer a monthly update on the numbers of unique monthly listeners in the U.S. for the most popular shows.

This American Life stands atop the first edition of the list, followed by RadioLab and Stuff You Should Know. NPR’s programming secured seven of the spots in the top 20; that’s little surprise given its No. 1 ranking on the August publisher chart with more than 8.5 million monthly uniques.

Unlike its monthly publisher rankings, this chart appears to list shows outside of the Podtrac client roster. According to the chart, “ranking of these shows is determined by a proprietary Podtrac algorithm which uses publicly available data.” Two programs in that vein appeared on the August list: The Joe Rogan Experience and one that the publisher declined to name.
