Trade association Sounds Profitable, and conference brand Podcast Movement, have merged in a seven-figure deal. This will be announced at this week’s Podcast Movement event in Dallas.
Podcast Movement will acquire Sounds Profitable, which continues its publication and event businesses. Co-owners Bryan Barletta and Tom Webster remain shareholders, with Barletta assuming the title of President, Podcast Movement.
Dan Franks, founder of Podcast Movement, will continue as President of Event Movement, which launched in 2014 as an event management and production company.
The new entity is described as “a central force in podcasting’s ongoing growth,” and promises to deepen its involvement in industry events around the world, including the Cannes Lions Festival, SXSW, The Podcast Show London, and Advertising Week.
Dan Franks reflects on that history and the merger:
“Over the past decade, the podcast industry has evolved in ways few could have imagined when we launched Podcast Movement in 2014. Sounds Profitable’s forward-thinking vision, cutting-edge research, and commitment to moving the industry forward create an incredible opportunity for Podcast Movement to grow and adapt alongside that evolution.” — Dan Franks
Bryan Barletta talks about amplifying the mission:
“This merger unites two leading organizations that have, until now, independently been both champions and catalysts, supporting the growth of the entire podcasting industry. As we take these next steps together, we’ll be able to amplify our mission to connect creators, brands, and innovators while providing an unmatched event experience in the podcast industry,” — Bryan Barletta
Looking ahead to the 2026 edition of Podcast Movement, we learn that New York will be the host city — the first time PM has located there.
