LyricFind secures funding from Canadian government to promote local artists and languages

LyricFind announced a new deal with the Canadian government. The Toronto-based lyrics licensing and database company received funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage Creative Export Canada program for a two-year effort focused on licensing, transcribing, and translating works by artists and songwriters in the country. The program aims to promote Canadian creators globally.

LyricFind will offer Canadian song lyrics in indigenous languages such as Inuktitut, Cree, and Anishinaabemowin, as well as translations from English to more globally spoken languages. LyricFind will also power lyric translation displays at live performances around the world by Canadian artists.

“We created the first real global licensing ecosystem for lyrics, but we feel we have yet to bring the full linguistic breadth and artistic range of our home country to the wider world,” LyricFind Founder and CEO Darryl Ballantyne said. “Thanks to this project, we’re aiming to expand our catalog of Canadian content by a factor of ten. We’re excited to start sharing translated Canadian content around the globe.”
