LG announced its foray into WiFi speakers at CES with the Music Flow suite of products. The company will sell three speakers, three upgraded sound bars, and a portable, battery-powered speaker under this brand. The Music Flow speakers will support the new audio-only Google Cast software, which brings in several music services. LG also has product partnerships with iHeartRadio, Rhapsody, Spotify, and TuneIn.
The biggest selling point with Music Flow appears to be price. GigaOm’s reporter on the show floor at CES said that LG reps told him the cost would be about half of what the competition is asking. That means Music Flow will be a direct challenger to Sonos, which has been a leader in the WiFi speaker charge. Sonos has a large war chest of about $455 million stored up, but it’s a newer company still building awareness and reputation. Since Music Flow has the better price and the more familiar LG brand behind it, the product line may be perfectly poised to capture market share.
