Former ESPN podcaster Bill Simmons will return to air in the fall

football canvasEarlier this week, Bill Simmons announced on Twitter that he will be launching a new podcast in the fall. He has a new contract with HBO that begins in October. Simmons’ tweet only promised a “new name, new sponsors” for the upcoming show, and HBO has not provided any other details about what his return to podcasting will sound like.

Simmons previously created the Grantland podcast network and hosted a show called B.S. Report for ESPN. His show featured interviews, in-depth analysis, and an attitude that attracted many fans. However, that program ended in May following an episode where Simmons was intensely critical of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s handling of the domestic abuse case involving player Ray Rice. He was suspended from ESPN for three weeks after that episode and then told in the spring that his contract would not be renewed.
