Apple Music has reportedly surpassed 10 million paying subscribers. Inside sources told Financial Times (paywall) that the new streaming platform reached the milestone after just six months on the market. For context, on-demand leader Spotify reported 20 million paying subscribers as of mid-2015. Lean-back service Pandora had 78.1 million monthly active users in its Q3 2015 earnings call, although fewer than 4 million of its listeners subscribe to the ad-free service.
Other recent rumors about Apple include the company’s move to trademark the names of possible new Beats radio stations and some potential explorations into high-res audio. Another music-related change comes from speculation that the next iPhone model will not have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Forcing listeners to buy an adapter for its Lightning port, or to buy new headphones entirely, could create a serious roadblock in Apple’s plans for music success.
I’ve been thinking about getting the Apple Music app for my Smartphone. I hear that if you subscribe to Apple Music, you’re supposed to be able to stream your iTunes purchases? Is that correct?
I simply load up my Smartphone with MP3’s. Saves on data usage and comes in handy rural locations.
Very true.
Also, if you have to watch your budget, it’s cheaper than paying a monthly fee.
Another good point.
