Amazon is bringing the free option for its music streaming service to more platforms. On Monday, the company opened access to select ad-supported playlists and stations to listeners in the U.S., UK, and Germany. It is available via the Amazon Music app on Android and iOS, as well as on Fire TV and on the web. Free listeners will not have any on-demand controls, and can’t download tracks for offline playback; those features remain gated to paying listeners.
Variety noted that Amazon’s expansion of its free tier may have caused Spotify shares to drop. Spotify has one of the biggest audiences for free, ad-supported streaming audio.
