7digital announced that one of its production companies, Unique, will be producing a Monday night jazz show for BBC Radio 3. The new shows will start in April.
“We are all very excited by this opportunity to bring the best of contemporary jazz to BBC Radio 3, both from Britain and the rest of the world,” said Alyn Shipton, executive producer for Unique. “We hope to satisfy existing fans of jazz, and also draw in plenty of new listeners to music we are passionate about and committed to supporting.”
The production deal is a continuation of 7digital’s relationship with the BBC’s jazz features. Unique produced Radio 3’s Jazz Library for five years and the Radio 2 Jazz Awards for two years, among other contracts.
“This is an important commission for us as we have declared our intention to specialise in the music production and curation skills that have been our hallmark,” 7digital CEO Simon Cole said. “The opportunity to work with the BBC on so many varied music formats at a time when the industry is at such a point of change is tremendously exciting.”
