SoundCloud adds chief revenue officer ahead of planned subscription launch

Alison MooreSoundCloud announced that Alison Moore will serve as the company’s new chief revenue officer. Moore’s past experience at HBO and NBCUniversal will go toward helping the audio company to launch a new subscription service some time this year.

Now that SoundCloud has secured a deal with Universal Music Group, it has the legal backing to start putting together an on-demand listening service. “We’re thrilled to have Alison heading up what will become a monetization engine of global scale,” SoundCloud CEO Alex Ljung said.

The plan to add a paid tier has been in the works at SoundCloud for some time. Monetization efforts for the company began with the debut of On SoundCloud in August 2014, a program allowing select members of the community to collect earnings from advertising. In the first several months, On SoundCloud generated $1 million in ad revenue.
